Anna Loeser is being treated for depression at a sanatorium. After a visit daughter Marie meets her murderer on her way home, businessman Robert Kunze. He picks up the hitchhiker, drives her to a secluded spot, strangles her and leaves her body in the forest.
From now on the audiences follow the parallel stories of the murderer and the victim's mother both of whom are prisoners of their emotions. They seek to escape in different ways but the intensity of their extreme odysseys is very similar: She is the desperate angel of revenge and he rescues himself in an all-encompassing surpressed and opportunistic diplomacy against himself and the rest of the world.
